North Star Goal
The Commission is guided by the North Star goal of making Oregon the safest healthcare system in the nation.
Through the North Star, we aspire to:
- Demonstrate that we are eliminating preventable harm
- Apply evidence-based best practices
- Assess risk and learn from experience
- Establish a culture of safety among all health care organizations that support learning and improvement
- Enable patients and consumers to play an active role in their health care
- Promote the value of electronic medical records in creating a safer and more connected health care system
Under new leadership, the Patient Safety Commission is working to refine and update the North Star metrics. We anticipate more information on this by January 2012.
