The New CMS Patient Safety Structural Measure: OPSC Is Here to Help!

Earlier this year, CMS adopted a new Patient Safety Structural Measure (PSSM) to assess the strategies and practices hospitals have in place to strengthen their systems and culture for safety. This new PSSM, which hospitals will begin reporting on in 2025, has five domains; over the next few editions of the Patient Safety Minute, we’ll highlight selected domains, offering ways in which OPSC can help you and your hospital prepare for, and attest to, this important structural measure.

Focus on Domain 4: Accountability & Transparency
Building a culture of safety requires both accountability for outcomes and transparency around safety events and performance. Domain 4 comprises several attestation statements, including the need for a Communication and Resolution Program (CRP) (Element 4D).

OPSC is Here to Help Oregon hospitals
Whether you already have a CRP in place, or you need to get started with one, the Pathway for Accountability, Compassion, and Transparency (PACT) can help. The PACT Collaborative can help you implement a highly reliable, evidence-based CRP, and OPSC can help! Just for being in Oregon, your hospital is eligible for 50% off the participation fee for joining the PACT Collaborative. Learn more about PACT.
