OPSC Patient Safety Minute: Toolkit for Improving Skin Care and MDRO Prevention in Long-Term Care
The mission of the Oregon Patient Safety Commission is to improve patient safety by reducing the risk of serious adverse events occurring in Oregon’s healthcare system and encouraging a culture of patient safety. As part of that mission, we often share toolkits and resources to support the valuable patient safety work that our healthcare community is doing.
“The Toolkit for Improving Skin Care and MDRO Prevention in Long-Term Care was developed in the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Safety Program for MRSA Prevention. Effective infection prevention interventions in long-term care facilities should consider the resident population and the environment, which is unique because residents live in the same facility in which they receive care. Proper skin care and strategies to reduce the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) are high-yield focus areas. This toolkit is designed to equip healthcare professionals and direct-care staff with the essential knowledge, resources, and tools to tackle the complex problems of infection prevention in the long-term care setting.”
